Ngoma - The Drum

Ngoma is the core of our communions between our world and the other realms of existence

Ngoma, the African drum, is a Spirit!

It is a Spirit that facilitates healing, entertainment, protection, divination, revival, upliftment, nourishment, growth, memory, celebration and many other activities of life. In African culture, customs and traditions, the drum represents the connection of the Mind, Body and Spirit. Indigenous African people have always believed that music, dance and songs are powerful rituals and spiritual practices for healing.

The rhythms of Ngoma are synchronized with the physical body’s heart-beat. The heart in African culture is the seat of the soul. Therefore, the rhythm of the drum strengthens and restores the cod between the body and the soul.

Together with the Rock, Ngoma, the African drum, holds the most ancient memories, the ancient spiritual memories that take us so far back in order to help us navigate the present and shape the future. Ngoma is the core of our communions between our world and the other realms of existence, the above worlds and the under worlds. It’s significance rests in its ability to heighten the spirits of the people involved in ceremonies, as well as invoke their ancestral spirits.

When tragedy strikes, the drum is played to facilitate our healing. When victory has been attained, the drum is played to celebrate. When we go to war, the drum is played. When we are dis-eased, Ngoma can rejuvenate us. Here is Ngoma!
